Crossover: William Becomes a Boy Scout

In February of this year, William went through the Crossover ceremony, making the transition from Cub Scout to Boy Scout. The event was very solemn and special for the boys, and William was very excited.

Cub Scouts has been a great thing for William who excels at the hands-on and the physical. Now that he's a Boy Scout, he already has his head set on earning Eagle Scout someday.

Cub Scout Camp

For William, there is nothing much better than annual Cub Scout camp.

This year, William was an old pro, having been to camp the year before. He ended up being the big man on campus too when he showed up with a walkie-talkie (to quell his nerves about being slightly separated from Joe).

It was a great experience for William. School is a challenge for our ten-year-old, so Cub Scouts lends a nice physical reprieve for a boy who really excels in the physical.

Cub Scout Advancement

William is continuing to enjoy Cub Scouts, and in this awards ceremony, William was promoted to Webelos II.

Cub Scouts has been a great activity for Joe and William to do together. Many of the activities are hands-on—something that appeals to William very much.

One more year of Cub Scouting before William becomes a Boy Scout!

Cub Scouts, Shields, and Swords

Our Cub Scout, William, together with lucky younger brother Andrew, was recently treated to a spectacular medieval sparring demonstration, complete with armor, shields, and swords—all as part of the annual Cub Scout lock-in where they got to spend the night with Dad in a tent in a school gymnasium. We had some very excited boys when they arrived home with Dad the next morning.

Webelos Willy

Willy is a Webelos this year. That means that he is one year closer to being a Boy Scout.  In fact, next year will be Will's final year in Cub Scouts where he will earn his Arrow of Light Badge.

William is very excited about Cub Scouts again this year. It's a great time for Joe and William to be together, with no distractions from anyone else.

This series of photos shows William with his completed boat for the Rainwater Regatta and ultimately competing in the regatta. His boat was not quite as streamlined as last year's boats, so there is room for improvement. But he definitely made points for sci-fi style.

GO, WILLY, GO!!!!

More Cub Scout Camp Photos

Willy Does Cub Scout Camp

William and Joe spent two whole days together at Cub Scout Camp this summer, doing "manly things" like shooting guns and scaling climbing walls.

Do I need to mention that Willy was pretty much in nine-year-old-boy heaven?

We Have a Winner!

William, our Cub Scout, came home with a trophy—and a huge smile—after his first Pinewood Derby. Our happy young man won second fastest car in his category and second best in show. Talk about thrilled!

That's William's car, in the middle of the fourth photo.

Rain Gutter Regatta

William, with Andrew along for company, attended his first Cub Scout rain gutter regatta. William did well in the competition leaving a little room for improvement next year, Andrew thrilled to the whole pirate theme, and both boys gobbled up the ice cream. This Cub Scout thing is a hit!
